Britney Spears, née le à McComb (Mississippi), aux États-Unis, est une chanteuse, danseuse, actrice et femme d'affaires américaine. Souvent appelée la Princesse de la pop, elle est reconnue pour avoir influencé la pop à la fin des années 1990 et dans les années 2000.
Après une carrière d'enfant star au Mickey Mouse Club en tant qu'animatrice, Britney Spears se lance dans la musique, signe avec Jive Records et se fait connaître mondialement en 1998 grâce à son titre ...Baby One More Time, qui est l'un des singles les plus vendus au monde. Il est considéré comme le plus grand premier single de tous les temps par Rolling Stone en 2020. Son premier album du même nom paru en 1999 se vendra à environ 25 millions d’exemplaires dans le monde. Grâce à la sortie de son deuxième album Oops!... I Did It Again en 2000, vendu à environ 21 millions d’exemplaires, Britney Spears devient l’artiste adolescente ayant vendu le plus d'albums. Avec des ventes de plus de 1,3 million d’exemplaires la première semaine, Oops!... I Did It Again a détenu le record de l’album le plus vendu par une artiste féminine aux États-Unis pendant quinze ans. Britney Spears adopte ensuite un style plus mature, plus provocateur avec ses albums Britney en 2001 et In the Zone en 2003 et continue de rencontrer un grand succès. Elle a également joué dans le film Crossroads en 2002.
Britney Spears a été productrice exécutive de son cinquième album studio Blackout sorti en 2007, souvent considéré comme son meilleur travail. À la suite d’une série de problèmes personnels très médiatisés, la promotion de l’album est limitée, il n’atteint pas la première place des ventes dans le monde et aux Etats-Unis pour la première fois de sa carrière (mais il se classe tout de même numéro 2) et Britney Spears est placée sous tutelle. Depuis, elle a retrouvé le sommet des classements avec les albums à succès, Circus en 2008 et Femme Fatale en 2011. Elle s’est ensuite lancée de 2013 à 2017 dans une résidence de concerts très lucrative, Britney: Piece of Me, au Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino de Las Vegas pour promouvoir ses deux albums Britney Jean sorti en 2013 puis Glory sorti en 2016. En 2019, la bataille juridique de Spears concernant sa tutelle (en) devient de plus en plus médiatisée et conduit à la création du mouvement #FreeBritney. En 2021, la tutelle prend fin à la suite de son témoignage public dans lequel elle accuse son équipe et sa famille de mauvais traitements.
Elle compte un total de 200 millions de disques vendus à travers le monde, dont 34 millions d'albums rien qu'aux États-Unis, ce qui fait d'elle l’une des artistes musicales ayant le plus vendu dans le monde. Six de ses albums se placent à la première position au Billboard 200 et cinq de ses singles se classent numéro un au Billboard Hot 100 : ...Baby One More Time, Womanizer, 3, Hold It Against Me et le remix de S&M. Avec 3 en 2009 et Hold It Against Me en 2011, Britney Spears est devenue la deuxième artiste après Mariah Carey dans l’histoire du Billboard Hot 100 à classer deux chansons ou plus directement à la première place. Ses singles Oops!... I Did It Again, Toxic et Scream & Shout ont dominé les classements dans la plupart des pays à travers le monde. Son titre Toxic lui a permis de remporter le Grammy Award de la meilleure chanson dance en 2004. Ses vidéos fortement chorégraphiées lui ont valu le Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award en 2011. Dubbed the "Prince of Pop", he is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Billboard named him one of the greatest pop stars of the 21st century. Wade Jeremy William Robson (born 17 September 1982) is an Australian dancer and choreographer. He began performing as a dancer at age five, and has directed music videos and world tours for pop acts such as NSYNC and Britney Spears. Robson was the host and executive producer of The Wade Robson Project, which aired on MTV in 2003. In 2007, he joined the Fox television dance series So You Think You Can Dance as a guest judge and choreographer. He won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography for the dance number "Ramalama (Bang Bang)" of So You Think You Can Dance.
When Robson was a child, he was befriended by the pop singer Michael Jackson. In 1993, when Jackson was first accused of child sexual abuse, Robson, aged 10, told police that nothing sexual had happened between them. In 2005, during Jackson's trial, Robson stated under oath that Jackson had never behaved inappropriately. However, in 2013, Robson reversed his position and filed a late creditor claim and a civil lawsuit against the Jackson estate, saying that Jackson had abused him from 1990 to 1997, when Robson was aged between seven and 14. His case is currently before a California court as Robson v. MJJ Productions. He detailed his allegations in the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland.
