Who dated Karin Nilsdotter?

Karin Nilsdotter (c. 1551–1613), was the royal mistress of Charles IX of Sweden, between 1568 and 1578. She was the mother of Carl Carlsson Gyllenhielm.

Karin Nilsdotter was the daughter of Nicolaus Andrae (Nils Andersson), vicar of Östra Husby in Östergötland, and his spouse Karin. She is believed to have become the mistress of Charles in 1568. In 1573, she is confirmed as such, and she was by then officially the chamber lady of the noblewoman Sigrid Kyle, spouse of Johan Olofsson till Sjösa, governor of Nyköping Castle, at Sjösa Manor. After the birth of their son in 1574, she lived with her son at Julita Manor. The relationship was terminated before Charles' marriage in 1578, when she was awarded the Sundby Manor and married to Charles' courtier Gustav Andersson (d. 1584), with whom she had two daughters. She remarried the personal physician of queen dowager Catherine Stenbock, and in 1594 she married thirdly to the nobleman Peder Kristensson Siöblad of Flättna, governor of Nyköping Castle, with whom she had a daughter.

Carlo IX Vasa (Stoccolma, 4 ottobre 1550 – Nyköping, 30 ottobre 1611) fu re di Svezia dal 1604 al 1611.

Figlio di Gustavo I di Svezia e della sua seconda moglie, Margherita Leijonhufvud, era fratello dei re Erik XIV e Giovanni III nonché zio di re Sigismondo I/III, re di Svezia e Polonia. Dal padre egli ottenne anche per un certo periodo anche il ducato di Södermanland, che includeva le province di Närke e Värmland.

Carlo IX fu figura di spicco nella politica svedese della seconda metà del XVI secolo, anche quando non era ancora stato incoronato re: uomo d'azione, energico e capace, esercitò via via sempre poteri maggiori sotto i regni di Erik XIV, Giovanni III e quindi sotto Sigismondo, sotto il regno del quale fu nominato reggente finché nel 1599, detronizzando quest'ultimo, fu nominato legittimo re di Svezia.

Sigismondo che era anche re di Polonia, rimase nei suoi possedimenti polacchi. La politica di Carlo IX fu dunque concentrata sulla difesa dei confini, appunto per evitare un possibile ritorno in patria del nipote.
